About the Atlanta Senior Olympics

The Atlanta Senior Olympics will be held May 18-24 at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta.  The MJCC was selected as the host organization for the 2006 Atlanta Senior Olympics because of it's successful track record in developing and implementing related programming throughout the year such as nutrition management, aerobics and fitness, strength training for older adults, cardio, arthritis management, pilates, personal training, senior walking clubs, master swim and tennis leagues (and socials), cancer awareness and reaction, and family programming for the children and grandchildren of the participants.  Events will include Track and Field, Swimming, Golf, Tennis,Basketball, Skills Day, Shuffleboard, Racquetball, Billiards, 4 mile road race, Table Tennis, and Mah Jongg. The MJCC is dedicated to motivating active adults to lead a healthy lifestyle through the senior games movement . This is a terrific, secular, opportunity for the city of Atlanta.

What is the Atlanta Senior Olympics?

The Atlanta Senior Olympics provides an opportunity for any persons 50 years of age or older, of all skill levels, to compete in a variety of events that promote a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being. 

What is the National Senior Games Association?

The National Senior Games Association (NSGA) is the national organization
that spearheads the senior games movement, sanctioning and coordinating the
efforts of senior games organizations across the country.

The NSGA and its state and local affiliates have a long history of
motivating active adults to lead a healthy lifestyle through the Senior
Games movement. The National Senior Olympic Games has grown to be one of the
largest multi-sport athletic competitions in the world.

The NSGA is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles for adults through
education, fitness, and sport. The NSGA strives to assist adults 50 and over
in achieving greater value and quality in their lives by staying healthy,
active, and fit.

Originally held in St. Louis in 1987, 2,500 athletes participated in the
first National Games.  In June of 2005 over 12,000 athletes traveled to
Pittsburgh, Penn. to compete in over 15 sporting events.

Events are held in hundreds of locations around the country in 49 states.  As
one can imagine, it is a massive coordination of facilities, equipment,
volunteers, awards, and much more. Financial resources come from many areas
including entrance fees, contributions, and corporate sponsorship.

What are State Olympics Games?

The State games are held every year in Warner Robins, Georgia , usually in
September.

Atlanta Senior Olympics is committed to enhancing the lives of Greater
Atlanta Senior Citizens.  Atlanta Senior Olympics will provide a platform
for any persons 50 years of age or older to participate in a variety of
competitive events from traditional track and field to table tennis,
swimming, tennis and bridge, and much more!
